Who are you?

Andre Sue Knits is an independent dye studio located just outside of Richmond, VA that specializes in artful sock blanks.  Each blank is hand painted with gorgeous color and professional acid dyes by me (Andi.)

How do I buy your yarn and sock blanks?

Blanks are added to the shop as they are painted and ready for shipping.  If the shop appears empty – do not worry!  More blanks will be added soon.  There’s currently not a schedule for adding inventory but new things get added to shop weekly.  If you’d like to be notified of new inventory or events, please subscribe to my newsletter.

You can also join my sock blank club to have a new and never-before-seen designed sock blank delivered to your doorstep monthly.  (Spots are limited.  Once they are sold out, there is a wait list.)

What is a sock blank?

A sock blank is a piece of knitted fabric that is designed to be unraveled and knit from directly.  To knit from a blank, simply unravel the blank from the right end (the wrong end has a lock stitch on the sides and you won’t be unable to unravel) and cast on.

The yarn will have a temporary kink until you block your finished piece and the yarn smooths out.

It is impossible to tell what your finished socks/shawl/hat might look like when knitting from a sock blank.  Watching the art disappear from the blank as you knit and transform into your knitted item is exciting and a huge part of the fun!

What about your club blanks?

The yarn is a soft and versatile 75/25 superwash merino/nylon fingering weight yarn that has been machine knitted and then hand painted with professional acid dyes. Occasionally you may receive a sock blank made with a sparkle yarn that is 70/25/5 superwash merino/nylon/stellina.

Tell me about your kettle dyed yarn.

My kettle dyed yarn is the same soft & versatile 75/25 superwash merino/nylon yarn base that is used in the sock blanks.

What is your club shipping schedule?

Club packages ship on the 5th of every month (unless it falls on a Saturday or Sunday, in which case it will ship the following Monday.)  When you sign up, you will receive the current month’s design.  It will ship within 5 business days of your sign up.  After your first month, your shipment will go out on the 5th.

How do I renew my club membership?

Memberships automatically renew each month.  You can cancel anytime.  Club membership spots are limited since each piece is hand painted by me.  After the initial club spots are filled, you will be directed to a waiting list.  As spots become available, I’ll contact those on the wait list in the order they signed up.

How do I unsubscribe from the club?

If you’d like to unsubscribe, log in to your account and unsubscribe from the list of subscription found there.

If you signed up through my old site using PayPal you can Unsubscribe here. You can also log into your PayPal account and navigate to your recurring charges and cancel your subscription from that list.  PayPal instructions.

Can I place a custom order?

Unfortunately, at this time, I am not accepting custom orders.

How do you paint your blanks?

I use professional acid dyes on superwash merino wool blends.  While it’s always a joy to hear from someone who has been inspired to paint their own sock blanks, I do not disclose my techniques or tools or suppliers as they are unique to my brand.

How do I care for the yarn?

I suggest you machine wash your projects in a garment bag, on the most gentle cycle your machine has, in cool water with a mild wool wash. Avoid hot water, lots of agitation, and regular detergents.  Spin your project out or roll it up and press between towels to get most of the water out, then reshape and lay flat to dry completely.

What about customs?

Any customs fees are the responsibility of the recipient. Your package will be marked as merchandise and include an invoice. It is illegal for me to mark your purchase as a “gift” – please do not ask.

I purchased multiple orders.  Can you combine them?

Yes! Although, keep in mind that unlike Etsy, my new store does not allow cart-jacking.  Any item put into your cart will stay in there for 5 minutes to give you the ability to browse and check out without rushing.  If possible, it’s best to check out with all your items in your cart together.  However, if you end up with 2 separate orders on the same day, I will do my best to automatically combine multiple orders.  Occasionally one will slip past me and they will go out in separate orders.   Any overages in shipping charges will be refunded on combined orders

I am an LYS owner and would like to stock your sock blanks.  Do you take wholesale orders?

At this time, I am not accepting new wholesale orders.  If you are an existing wholesale account, I will gladly take re-orders.  Please email me at andre@andresueknits.com if you’d like your store to be on a wholesalers wait list.

Will you do trunk shows?

At this time I’m not available for trunk shows.

Do you reserve blanks for specific customers?

At this time, I’m not reserving blanks.
